Policies
The safety and well-being of children is our top concern. Below is a brief overview of our main policies. Feel free to reach out if you want to review our complete procedures or additional policies.
Alcohol and Drugs Policy It's our responsibility to ensure the health and safety of everyone on our team at work. We take the use of alcohol and drugs very seriously. Being under the influence, using, possessing, distributing, buying, or selling alcohol (unless it's a sanctioned event) or any illegal drugs while at work or on our property is not allowed and will be seen as a major violation of our conduct policy.
Behaviour Management Policy We encourage positive behavior in kids, helping them learn how to interact well with both peers and adults. Our educators set a good example by using polite phrases like "please" and "thank you." We celebrate every effort towards positive behavior and make sure kids face enough challenges to steer clear of negative actions, teaching them the value of listening and being helpful. Instead of focusing on what they shouldn't do, we guide them on what they can do; for instance, if a child is tossing toys, we’ll show them appropriate items to throw, like a ball, to promote friendship. We collaborate closely with parents to maintain consistency, helping kids learn to manage their behavior while keeping parents in the loop. Throughout their time in the nursery, our educators communicate in a gentle, calm manner using language that's friendly and suitable for their age.
Complaints Policy Our focus is on accountability, clear communication, and transparency to build and keep trust with families. We're always looking to enhance our environment and maintain high standards. We collaborate with parents, caregivers, and external agencies, and we appreciate any feedback or suggestions for improvement. We know that sometimes issues can become significant enough to need further attention. If you have concerns that need escalation, feel free to talk to the key person, the Nursery Manager, or the Director. If you're still not satisfied with the resolution, you can take your complaint to Ofsted.
Equality and Diversity Policy We are dedicated in ensuring equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices for all children and families, are tailored to their unique needs. We cultivate a supportive environment characterised by mutual respect and trust among children and staff. Our commitment to equality and inclusion extends to all children and their families, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, race, color, sexual orientation, marital status, family structure, social grouping, nationality, age, or disability. We address all forms of discrimination consistently and efficiently. Our recruitment, selection, training, and promotion processes are based solely on the necessary occupational skills, without consideration of age, sex, gender reassignment, disability, marital status, race, religion, sexual orientation, or pregnancy, unless justified for safe and effective job performance. We uphold the fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance for diverse faiths and beliefs. Our environment is inclusive for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, ensuring equal access to all curriculum areas. We value and incorporate the contributions of all families in our efforts to promote equality, inclusion, and diversity within our nursery.
Fire Drill & Emergency Policy Staff maintain a constant awareness of fire hazards and are prepared for evacuation protocols at all times. Our local evacuation procedures are thoroughly documented and routinely tested. Regular alarm tests and fire drills are conducted to ensure readiness. Additionally, preventive measures and maintenance procedures, such as professional inspections of fire safety equipment, are implemented to reduce the risk of fire.
Health and Safety Policy All feasible measures will be implemented to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, safeguard the well-being of all individuals, and protect nursery property by fostering awareness of legal, personal, and economic responsibilities. Regular daily risk assessments allow for the prompt resolution of any emerging issues.
Key Person Policy We implement a 'key person' approach. Upon enrollment, each child is assigned to one of four key groups, and parents are informed about their child's group and designated key person. It is a legal requirement to support a child's Personal, Social, and Emotional Development, and having a trusted adult to whom they are connected, fosters a sense of security and safety, thereby enhancing these developmental aspects.
Nappy & Toileting Policy Nappy changing and toileting practices are designed to ensure that children feel safe, secure, and valued as individuals. It is essential to uphold their rights to privacy and dignity during these personal care routines. Children are guided in understanding toileting procedures to foster their independence. Typically, the child's Key Person will assist with nappy changes and document the event on Famly to inform parents. In cases where a child has disabilities or medical needs impacting their personal care, a Health Care Plan will be developed in collaboration with parents or caregivers. During the settling-in process, parents will be asked about any specific words, actions, or needs their child may have regarding nappy changing.
Safeguarding Policy Our main priority is the safety and wellbeing of every child in our care. We feel a strong obligation to act swiftly and responsibly in any situation that arises, keeping the interests of children, parents, and staff in mind. We have a copy of the 'What to Do if You’re Worried a Child is Being Abused Guidance' readily available, outlining the necessary steps to take if we suspect abuse. Recognising that abuse exists in society, this policy details our response procedures for any suspected cases involving children in our care. We strive to create an inclusive environment that promotes a positive self-image for all children, regardless of their background, and we encourage them to build healthy relationships with family, peers, and adults while fostering their independence within the community. We continuously assess the children's environment to ensure it remains safe and secure for everyone. Additionally, we educate children on how to manage potential risks, such as safely crossing the road and handling scissors, helping them understand the importance of safety. Whenever we identify risks, we address them promptly and take the necessary measures to protect the children involved.
Safer Recruitment Policy Our recruitment and selection process is thorough, allowing us to hire individuals who possess the right skills and align with our cultural values, ensuring the Nursery operates effectively and contributes positively to our ethos. This process guides managers and others involved in hiring, emphasising both selection and appointment. We are dedicated to a safe recruitment approach that prioritises the protection of children from unsuitable individuals, applying this policy consistently for every new nursery team member. We will ensure that those appointed to teaching and care roles are either qualified or actively pursuing the necessary qualifications, selecting staff who embody the right attitude and cultural fit for the nursery, while also supporting their personal growth, ultimately enhancing the quality of care and education we provide.
